This episode of Cogitations is about the idea that our good intentions can change the commandments of God. I made a post about an old man in hospice care bing baptized wrongly. Here is what I wrote:
Every so often there is a question about baptism and a body part inadvertently coming up out of the water. The answer, no, it is not a scriptural baptism and therefore the person only got wet.
So often that answer is met with indignation about God’s grace and mercy. Well, folks, here is the conclusion to thinking exceptions can be made to the form of baptism. Sitting in a tub of water, a man with a genuine and honest heart surrounded by genuine and honest people are genuinely, honestly, and ignorantly mistaken about the mode of baptism.
This man is now very happy and comforted on his path to hell because he and folk around him decided that God would be ok with only a small deviation from the pattern.
It does not matter how genuine and loving you are. It does not matter that your intentions were to do the right thing. All the good intentions in the world won’t help you if you didn’t simply follow the instructions written in God’s Word.
