Going into the NEW YEAR… a look at fear.

What do you gain by facing your fear?
Standing on a bridge at 100 feet high looking down at a river getting ready to jump. All I focused on was… this is going to be a great story.
Putting on the TDA conference- lots of risk, lots of money, lots of planning, and yes some fear… but I knew it would be a great story.
How many stories have you missed due to fear?
Fear is a teacher
1- Fear is simply telling you there is a great story to tell just around the corner of facing this fear. Life is about collecting stories, telling stories and teaching stories to others around you. Never deny the opportunity to collect a story. Face the fear. You say you don’t have any really good stories? I say it is because you have allowed your fear to keep you from truly living. You don’t really come alive until you live through the facade of fear. Want some great stories to tell? Start living regardless of what you fear.
2 Cor. 11:23-31
Paul - I am speaking like I am out of my mind, but I am so much more: in harder labor, in more imprisonments, in worse beatings, in frequent danger of death. 24Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked. I spent a night and a day in the open sea.…In my frequent journeys, I have been in danger from rivers and from bandits, in danger from my countrymen and from the Gentiles, in danger in the city and in the country, in danger on the sea and among false brothers,27in labor and toil and often without sleep, in hunger and thirst and often without food, in cold and exposure. 28Apart from these external trials, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches.…29Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not burn with grief? 30If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.…31The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is forever worthy of praise, knows that I am not lying.
Paul is going to boast about his stories where he faced fear. No one wants to hear a story about you sitting in your lounge chair sipping a beer. I want to hear stories about how you sacrificed, you took the step, you raised your hand, you quit your job, you prayed for your antagonist, you believed in healing over the doctors reports, you showed compassion when you could have chosen anger or revenge. Stories about you sticking it out in a bad marriage, you kicking your kid out for drugs… Stories are powerful if they are stories of overcoming… but overcoming has to have the element of fear to be a great lesson.
