It seems these days more value is placed on entertainment and recreation than is placed on tools and resources to enhance one’s personal development.
This is really a shame, because if we are going to continue to enlarge our capacity, expand our reach, grow our impact, etc. – we must also grow in knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and competencies!
Today we’re unpacking the third of our 4 Cornerstones for Strategic Living: Personal Development.
The Gist:
Growing our influence and our capacity only comes by practicing the discipline of personal development. Learning and developing is a continual, ongoing process.
What About You?
- Are you actively and intentionally growing your mind?
Ways to Pursue Personal Development:
- Read! Be a reader. “Readers are leaders.”
- Pursue knowledge at all levels. Attend in-person or online courses, seminars, etc. Educate yourself.
- Surround yourself with people who are where you desire to be. Soak up their influence and wisdom and learn from their successes and mistakes.
- Hire a coach or mentor. Invest in the insight of others, and you’ll take it to heart!
- Attend conferences related to your passion. Show up and network with other attendees, develop relationships, and watch the doors of opportunity open.
- Listen. Listen to audio programs, speakers, etc. that will fill your mind positively and aid in growing your understanding.
Closing Thoughts:
- What percentage of your personal budget will you allocate for your personal development?
- Take an inventory of your life.
- What areas need to be strengthened?
- What knowledge do you need to acquire?
- What qualities do you need to strengthen in your leadership and in your life?
- What are your greatest strengths and aptitudes?
