With a name that means, "Jehovah is my fire", how could this man that served as one of the few mighty men in David's army be anything but the epitome of a hero? Brave, honorable, devoted, and faithful are just a few of the words that would define Uriah! But what we have come to know Uriah as, was not always his beginnings! Born a Hittite, this man was seemingly under the curse of Ham and was descended from the original habitants of Canaan, which God ordered to be purged from the territory that was to belong to Israel. But this is what makes his story all the more unlikely, for choosing to yoke himself to king David, he joined the army of the living God, determined to not let his past dictate his future, or his descent determine his identity! This man was faithful to the Mission, even when his commander had fallen. For heroes never shrink back from the uncertainty of danger, nor allow the lures of this present world sway them from the Battle, the Brotherhood, or their duty to them both!
