I sit down with longterm friend and client, Ken Orr at The Salon to discuss drug abuse, life as a South Philly rockstar, and restarting your life at any age.
After submitting his body to 48 years of acute drug and alcohol abuse, Ken found a way to get the help he desperately needed - changing the trajectory of his life for the better. Then, tragically, in his 50's Ken suffered a life-changing stroke followed by a diagnosis of Guilian-Barre syndrome - an incredibly rare nerve disorder where the body's immune system attacks itself - a 1 in 100,000 disorder.
The stroke and subsequent diagnosis took his ability to walk, talk, and live life. The doctors he saw made no promises of recovery. But mentally, he had been in a similar place before. He had hit rock bottom but this time it wasn't the drugs to blame. Once again Ken rose to the task and fought.
4 years on, Ken is still fighting and clearly winning the battles. Drugs and alcohol haven't stopped him, the diagnosis didn't stop him - in fact, Ken has become a study about never giving up, always fighting for yourself, and keeping your faith in the face of adversity.
Come with me on this week's adventure in getting to know Ken Orr ....
