in this edition of When the Needle Hits the Groove, host Geoff Hanson pays tribute to the late John Prine with a set of mostly live versions of some of John Prine's greatest songs. Hanson used the song "Fish and Whistle" in the soundtrack of his 1996 film "Scrapple." "Fish and Whistle" is a classic John Prine song," Hanson said. " It has a playful, jangly feel yet it is really a song about forgiveness. Consider "In spite of Ourselves," a song about a couple tolerating one another's peculiar habits but it is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. The loss of John Prine leaves a crater in the canon of American music that can never be filled.
