This is the final Bridegroom Matins of the year. As we wait with oil in our lamps like the wise virgins, we anticipate the coming of our Lord to His voluntary Passion.
This is usually sung this evening (Tuesday) or can be done tomorrow morning (Wed.)
There is a very special and beloved hymn in this service near the end. You will notice that it is lengthy and sung in a mournful tone. The hymn was written by St. Kassiani in the voice of the sinful woman, and it is one of the few ancient Orthodox hymns we have written by a woman. It is one that people look forward to hearing every year and helps in a profound way to draw us in to the drama unfolding. There are many striking and beautiful settings of this hymn you can also find on youtube or vimeo.
