Get your own. What comes to mind?
Back in the early 80’s on Thanksgiving day the Macy’s day parade had a stand still in the middle of its procession. It seems that one of the floats ran out of gas… The most bizarre thing about this story is not only is it true, but the float belonged to none other than the Standard Oil company.
Do you know how to grow a garden?
Do you know how to hunt? with a gun? with a bow? How to trap? with just rope?
Do you know how to dress a deer, skin a rabbit or squirrel or clean a duck or goose?
Do you know how to get clean water from a stream or river?
Do you know how to stay warm in the winter without shelter?
Do you know how to start a fire with no matches?
Maybe you have thoughts of these types of scenarios while we are in this pandemic pandemonium panic.
I don’t think this little virus blip on the world will bring about a huge revival in the USA… I so wish it would. But the one thing I do know that it will reveal is who can make their own oil.
HOLD ON… let me explain.
Our country is full of people who run all week on a few drops of oil barely coasting into Sunday mornings… and if they miss a Sunday morning… yikes!
Matthew 25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
Its not enough to just accept Christ once, you have to be able to fill your lamp or get left out of Gods presence. I will let your own theology define what that means.
But I do know this… you better be able to get your own oil.
So where you at not being able to go to church on Sundays or mens bible study etc… are you running low? Are you learning to fill up your lamp - are you as full and as hot as ever? Has it stirred you to push in more? I hope so.
