This video explains the very basics of contest selection: Cash vs GPPs Hi – We like playing Fantasy Golf. It is fun for us! WeI don’t play for a lot of money, maybe $20 max a week. We don’t pay for picks or services. We just watch golf and use my gut to make picks. Eric and Chad play on DraftKings. In this short video Chad will explain the difference between “Cash” and “GPP” contests on DraftKings… First off, this is SUPER basic stuff: Within “golf” there are a lot of options for contests… Multi-entry contests: allow users to submit more than 1 lineup . Single-entry contests: users are only allowed to submit 1 lineup. GPP: Gauranteed Price Pool contests pay out large 1st place prizes. These contests are created by DraftKings and will run/pay out even if they don’t fill (spoiler: they always fill). GPP contests are usually the most fun. You can play for a huge prize! These contests are filled with the best DFS players. GPP’s usually require a player to embrace more risk. These can be very frustrating as a successful DFS player might only win 1 of these contests per YEAR! Or NEVER! GPP contests are fun, but don’t expect to win. It takes a LOT of luck; especially when there are 100,000s of players/lineups you have to compete against. The other alternative to “GPP” contests is what is referred to as “Cash” contests. Cash contests mean that 50% (minus the DK rake %) of the winning entries into that contest are paid out the same amount. There are clearly different strategies for GPP vs Cash; which again is what makes DFS fun – there are multiple ways to play, and different strategies to winning. Cash contest lineups might be more conservative because you do not need to finish 1st or in the Top 10 for a big payout; that doesn’t matter. All you need from your cash lineup is to beat 50% of the lineups in that contest and you “cash”. Cash game contests can also be referred to as Double Ups or 50/50s. There are many articles and videos about the strategy between each of these contest types. Playing “cash” games can be a great way to get started as a beginner since you don’t have to have the “perfect” lineup to make money. OK so you’ve figured out the difference between GPP’s and Cash games… Now you can play these contest types for the entire event or for just 1 round. Round by Round showdown is a great way to play DFS golf without being committed to all 4 rounds. DK offers Weekend Golf as well so that once the cut is made, you can play without the fear of one of your 6 golfers missing the cut. Each of these types has different scoring so be aware of that. The DK casino also offers other ways to use your entertainment dollar: Picking based on pre-determined tiers or drafting players like a traditional snake style draft are sometimes available. There is also something called “satellite” and “qualifier” contests. Satellite contests allow a player to pay a small entry into a contest in an attempt to win a ticket into a higher dollar amount contest. Qualifier contests allow a player to try to win a ticket or entry into the big DK sponsored year end event. There are SOO many ways to play DFS. Try experimenting with different types of contests types. After a while you will figure out how you like to lose your money best. Watch our weekly Pod for advice!
