The Downward Facing Spiritual Spiral
Society & Culture:Philosophy
While riding my bike this past weekend, a car started to swerve towards me and almost hit me. When I approached the car at the red light and looked inside, sure enough, the driver was staring down at her phone. I yelled out to the woman, "Stop staring at your phone!" to which she replied just as emphatically, "NO!" And there lies the problem, she doesn't #GAF. We live in a world where people just don't give AF about anyone but themselves. Today on the Spiritual Spiral, I talk about the consequences of living in a world where people have become so self-indulgent. Facebook and Instagram are rewarding and perpetuating this narcissistic behavior and it's creating more megalomaniacs than ever before so what does that mean to our culture. I talk about the increase in suicide in Northern California since the start of the coronavirus. Does anyone #GAF? I also think about Napster and how it became the new normal to not have to pay for music. One of my recent podcast guests talked about how people are still willing to pay for knowledge but let's say someone figures out a way to make Masterclass courses available in the cloud free of charge. Would people still pay for classes or would people be just as willing to steal knowledge as they do when they "pay" for music on Spotify? (Paying your measly $9.99 a month on Spotify is about as close to stealing as you can get.) If you enjoy the show, there are a few things you can do that would be incredibly helpful.
