Welcome to Episode # 57 of The Alcohol & Addiction Podcast and my guest Lisa Smith
Lisa F. Smith is a writer and lawyer in New York City. She is the author of, "Girl Walks Out of a Bar," her memoir of high-functioning addiction and recovery in the world of New York City corporate law. Lisa’s writing has been published in The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, AfterPartyMagazine.com, and Addiction.com. She is passionate about breaking the stigma of addiction and mental health issues.
Before beginning her more than 15-year legal marketing career, Lisa practised law in the Corporate Finance group of a leading international firm. She is a graduate of Northwestern University and Rutgers School of Law, where she served on the Editorial Board of the Rutgers Law Review. Lisa serves on the Board of Directors of the NY Writers Coalition and The Writers Room in New York City. She lives in New York City with her husband, Craig.
In this episode we talk about Lisa’s views on alcoholism, I seek her advice on how people should manage their addictions if they are worried about the effect it will have on their career, and what she would do if she had 10,000 hours to work on anything in a bid to help more people recover.

Before you go, do you want to join me in the trenches and learn what life is like in the middle of an addiction story? I'm not talking about the part when you are drunk out of your skull and can't remember anything. I'm talking about what comes after you quit. How do you fill the white space? How do you find a new community? How do you find meaning and purpose? If these questions interest you, then buy my new book Needy Helper 2015 Diary Excerpts: A Life After Alcohol. http://amzn.to/2axGveg
Talking about community, how would you like to become a member of the Needy Helper Hub? It's a new idea to create a constant community, support and continual personal improvement process forever. It's my intention to be online as much as I can to answer any questions you have about your addiction, and to continually update the Hub with training tools, tips and techniques to help you create a whole new life. If that interests you, then click the link below to find out more. http://www.needyhelper.com/the-needy-helper-hub/
This podcast would not be possible without the sterling efforts of Neil Chow and Liza Lim, so big hugs and kisses to them, and also to you, the listeners, without whom this podcast wouldn't be possible, so thanks for giving me your ear to bend.
