Jesus Includes the Disciples in Ministry
Text: Mark 8:1-13
Thesis: The true definition of a Disciples is one that has been discipled and is now able to disciple another.
- Jesus continuously demonstrates compassion to the general (vs1-3)
“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” (Mathew 9:36)
- Jesus recognized people are “like sheep without a shepherd.”
- Jesus also recognizes, people that do not have him as a “Shepherd”, “are harassed and helpless” by the evil one.
- Jesus protects the Christian from the evil one. With Jesus we are no longer “helpless”.
- Jesus’ “compassion” stems not only from his love but from the vulnerable state in which they were in.
- It is easy to love your own family members and friends but what are your thoughts about those in your community, your state, your country, and your world.
- “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
- To become like Christ is to recognize that the general public are “like sheep without a shepherd.”
- Jesus does not allow his disciples to just sit on the sideline but challenges them to be directly involved in ministry. (vs4-8)
- Jesus engaged the disciples mentally, Jesus asked, “How many loaves…”
- Use your mind for building the kingdom of God, think, think and thing again.
- Jesus engaged the disciples financially; Jesus asked, “How many loaves do you have?”
- Use your finances to build the kingdom of God.
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9: 6-7)
- Jesus engaged the disciples in physical “Jesus told the disciples to distribute them.” (vs7)
- Use your physical strength to build the kingdom of God.
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:7)
- Jesus engages the disciples in a Faith Adventure that required the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Utilize the Holy Spirit that lives in you to build the kingdom of God.
“Jesus said, ‘But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)
“being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
