PILATE'S POWERFUL QUESTIONS CONCERNING JESUS
Introduction
- Look At Pilate's Biography (Not A Great Guy)
- But He Asks Some Powerful Questions In Our Text (John 18:28-38)
- "WHAT ACCUSATION DO YOU BRING AGAINST THIS MAN?"
- The Accusers Eventually Use Five Talking Points
- He forbids paying taxes to Caesar
- He stirs up the people everywhere
- If He weren't guilty, we wouldn't have brought Him
- We can't kill Him, but our law says He should die
- If you release Him, you're a traitor against Caesar
- On What Charge Can Jesus Be Successfully Tried And Found Guilty?
- We Must Assess Jesus' Character Fairly And Accurately
- "ARE YOU THE KING OF THE JEWS?"
- What Does It Mean To Say Jesus Is King?
- It indicates a certain power
- It indicates a certain peace
- It indicates a certain purpose
- It indicates a certain principle
III. WHAT IS TRUTH?
- Jesus Uses "Truth" 26 Times In The Gospel Of John
- He embodies it, teaches it, tells it, is it
- The Question Is The Right Question To Ask
- Not everything that claims to be truth is truth
- Pilate Had The Answer In Front Of Him, But He Lacked Interest In It (Him)
Conclusion
- Pilate Knew He Had A Remarkable Man In Front Of Him (John 19:5)
- But he never acted on it
- Chrysostom Shows Jesus To Be God And Man
- We Need To Find the Right Answers And Share Them
