Stacy Webb of the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC is here to discuss the health of the province's freshwater fish stock and habitat.
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC is a private, non-profit organization created to enhance and conserve BC's freshwater fisheries for public benefit. BC is home to some of the finest freshwater fishing in the world. Each year, over $300,000 licensed anglers spend around $500M in BC, predominantly in rural and remote areas. That being said, in 2018, the program ran a deficit of $700K, and all hands point towards the incredibly low cost of an annual fishing license, which is set by the Ministry of Forests, Lands, & Natural Resources. This organization needs funding to maintain habitats, and to protect fish populations, including endangered fish species such as the white sturgeon.
