Vets transitioning from military to civilian life face many challenges, especially when entering the job market. Yet their very training and experience provides them with competitive advantages that they don’t always recognize.
Our guest today is ROB LOUGEE, a service-connected disabled veteran of the Persian Gulf War, and Assistant National Employment Director for the more than 1 million-members DAV (Disabled American Veterans). Mr. Lougee manages special employment initiatives and works with private and public sector entities to develop and build partnerships to address joblessness and underemployment for their members. He also facilitates job fairs and leads efforts to connect veterans and transitioning service members to employers.
Vets have a wealth of transferable skills, yet they often feel out of place in civilian life. This episode highlights the real struggles they face and gives hope and strategies to gain the confidence to communicate to a prospective employer that they are ready to complete their next mission.
