Father,
We pray like the prophet Habakkuk: Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. God, the Lord, is my strength.
Have mercy on me, a sinner. We repent of our sins and turn to You and we ask You to make our hearts clean. It seems like we’re always putting our hope in something else besides You, even when we’re trying to be intentional. We’re still drawn in by the pull of wealth or security or pleasure or power or control. So here we are, again today, repenting, and asking You to show us the better way—the way of surrender, the way of trust and hope and freedom and joy.
You are the God of our salvation. You are our strength.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every tree, every vine, every stall—we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.
