Holy God,
You are righteous, efficient, thorough, and merciful—and we praise You for it! Thank You for having a perfect plan, for securing its success, and for letting us be a part of that plan!
Like King Azariah, we vacillate between humility and arrogance, if we’re ever humble at all. We take credit for our victories and forget to acknowledge You, and little by little, we become people who resist rebukes and warnings, and do our own thing. We hate to be corrected and we grow defensive when we’re confronted with our sins and shortcomings. And we repent. We confess this sin to You and ask You to do the work in our hearts to change us from the inside out.
Would You make us like Zechariah, the priest who instructed King Azariah in what it meant to fear You and walk with You? As long as Azariah sought You, You made his ways prosper. We want to continue to seek You first, God, and we want our ways to prosper as a result. We don’t want any kind of prospering apart from You, because it will be our downfall. Draw us near to Yourself in delight and awe, and help us to show others what that looks like, too—help us to instruct others in the fear of the LORD.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.
