Father,
We praise You for Your gentleness, for being the king of King we can draw near to. We praise You for Your patience toward a world full of sinners—and us, specifically, Your kids.
Like David’s messenger, we have rejoiced at the death of our enemies, instead of mourning. We have longed for justice for everyone but ourselves. We’ve escalated problems instead of solving them through peacemaking and humility. In our arrogance, we’ve lost sight of Your heart for mercy and restoration. Make our hearts clean, God.
Would You humble us? Remind us that whether our enemies live or die, You can be trusted. You are where our hope lies—not in temporary victories or advancements. Help us zoom out to see the bigger picture of eternity, to pray for the repentance and salvation of our enemies, not their annihilation. And when death is what You have in store, help us to mirror Your heart by mourning the death of the wicked, since we know You don’t take pleasure in it. Give us hearts that look like Yours and the value the things You value.
We surrender our lives to You, Lord—every moment of our day, each decision we make, we yield our will and way to Your perfect will and way.
We love You too. Amen.
