In this episode of the AP Now podcast, Mary Schaeffer discusses new best practices required to run an efficient and effective accounts payable function. She begins by explaining that while some of the new best practices recommended are a result of what happened during the COVID crisis, others were long in the making thanks to new frauds.
She then shares that each chapter of her new book, 127 Best Practices for Accounts Payable starts with a cartoon that embodies some of the funny and often ludicrous situations that happen in many accounts payable departments. Then the book turns serious.
Schaeffer then reviews some of the areas where best practices either changed or were added. She starts by discussing the need to remote work part-time; hopefully to avoid some of the headaches encountered this time. She then moves onto discuss new frauds and the increased necessity of verifying certain types of transactions, even though it means more work. Finally. She talks about changing invoice practices to address the headache of multiple copies of the same invoice and receipt of invoice practices. She closes with a brief description of some tech issues and directions on how the $39.95 book can be ordered.
