Hi folks!
Now we examine our 3rd "O" in the definition of God, Omnibenevolence or "moral perfection". Here's a classic paradox; the short conversation, the Euthyphro, where Socrates uses questions to trap an arrogant but respected man about the nature of morality. The man's name, Euthyphro. Socrates discovers Euthyphro believes what today we call the "Divine Command Theory" (DCT).
The Divine Command Theory is still alive and popular today. Socrates asks, "What should Rule God? Objective Morality, or God unguided by any external force, only by God's will and commands?"
Q: What is the Divine Command Theory as defined in our podcast? Explain what the DCT is with the examples of St. Thomas Aquinas verses Duns Scotus. Who believed what?
Cheers~
