I denne episoden diskuterer vi Matthieu Kassovitz' franske nittitallsklassiker Hatet («La haine», 1995), som for mange var så kul og viktig at den ble identitetsskapende. Treffer knyttneveslagene like hardt i 2020?
Selv om Matthieu Kassovitz mottok regiprisen i Cannes og Hatet ble en internasjonal hit, ble han aldri auteur, og i dag kan det virke som om han har avsluttet sin regikarriere for å være skuespiller på heltid (de fleste forbinder ham med Den fabelaktige Amélie fra Montmartre og TV-serien Le Bureau). Om det egentlig fantes noe enestående ved Hatet sin tone og stil kan diskuteres, for filmens inspirasjonskilder er mildt sagt tydelige, men det hersker ingen tvil om at Kassovitz «traff en nerve i tiden», og at «den franske Scorsese» selv ble innflytelsesrik.
