“Karma is the eternal assertion of human freedom... Our thoughts, our words, and deeds are the threads of the net which we throw around ourselves.” This quote by Swami Vivekananda is a perfect introduction to the theme of today. As we continue on our journey through the Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success by Deepak Chopra, we dig into the third law, which is the law of karma. I’m sure you have heard of karma before, do you live it? Do you embody that law in your everyday lives? Let’s start by reading a passage from Deepak Chopra’s book “The Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success”: “ The best way to understand and maximize the use of karmic law is to become consciously aware of the choices we make in every moment. “ Karma is basically a word for the law of cause and effect, which is pretty self-explanatory. One of the earliest associations between cause and effect, or causality and karma, is found in the Upanishad, written during the 7th century BCE. Here is a passage: “ Now as a man is like this or like that, according to as he acts and according to as he behaves, so will he be; a man of good acts will become good, a man of bad acts, bad; he becomes pure by pure deeds, bad by bad deeds; And here they say that a person consists of desires, and as is his desire, so is his will; and as is his will, so is his deed; and whatever deed he does, that he will reap. “ It’s a concept that we are all familiar with. You don't have to believe in re-incarnation like the Buddhists do, to appreciate the simple causalities law. If you do good things to others, others will do good things for you. This joins what we talked about yesterday in the law of giving. If you want love, give love. Here it is somewhat similar. If you want to be a good man, act well. Are you making conscious choices every day? Are you aware of the seeds you are planting, moment after moment in your daily lives with each decision, each action, and even each thought? If not, well it's time to be mindful of that. We talked about that concept in our earlier episodes when we talked about making the right decisions to tighten the gap between who you are today and who you could be at the best version of yourself, at your highest potential. Decisions that bring you +1% towards your goals and growth, or decisions that bring you back 1% towards a false sense of security and comfort. All this of course compounds over time.
JOURNALING EXERCISES:
Write down the answers to these questions: 1. Are you aware of the millions of micro-decisions you make every single day? Could be the way you answer in interactions, the way you decide to write a certain email to your employees, the food you decide to pack for your lunch, and so on. Micro decisions. Are you aware of them? 2. Write down 5 decisions you make daily that you could be more conscious about. 3. Are you consistently planting seeds for a better life? Put differently, what choices could you be more conscious of, and could you work on better in order to prepare better outcomes for your personal development and for the people you love? Take your time. You might want to put some reminders, like posits, on your fridge, on your phone, on your bathroom mirror, with the simple question: What kind of seeds are you planting today?
EMPOWERING AFFIRMATIONS OF THE DAY
* I reap the outcomes from the seeds I plant
* I am conscious of all choices and decisions I make
* As I behave, so will I be
* I become pure by pure deeds, and bad, by bad deeds
