Thanksgiving Day
Deuteronomy 8: 1-14(vs.10)
Thesis: Families need to come together and thank God as a family for the country He has blessed us with. God Bless America!
- There are a lot of similarities between God leading Israel to Canaan and the pilgrims to America.
- God’s Word states, “Remember how the Lord led you…”
- God calls them to reflect upon their own history.
- The Israelites were delivered from the religious oppression of Egypt and the Pilgrims from the religious oppression of England.
- The Israelites were led across the desert and the American’s were led across the Atlantic Ocean.
- Both the Israelites and the Pilgrims were concerned about religious freedoms, a place to raise their families and place where they could prosper.
- As God was concerned about the Israelites not forgetting Him while enjoying the blessings, so God is concerned about America not forgetting him as well.
- “When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.” (vs 10)
- These are the instructions that God gave Israel and to all His children He has blessed.
- We, as Americans, the descendants of the first Pilgrims have been blessed with a great land of prosperity.
- We are called to praise him!!!
- “Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.” (vs11) (also Read vss. 18-20)
- Forgetfulness can lead to pride. (vs12-16)
- All good things come from God. (vs17-18)
