Intro, Ethics, Social and Political: So What is a Conspiracy Theory?

Conspiracy Theory, anyone?

What we are doing today is understanding conspiracy theory as a concept. And why it matters on a society-wide level, and how it is necessary for a real democracy. It clearly does in the proper understanding of the requirements of (a) public knowledge and (b) the background understanding of how normal and ordinary conspiratorial activity is to the human species, in our everyday lives. Remember, conspiracy is defined as,

1. Conspiracy: 2 or more people intentionally cooperating to deceive others.

Conspiracy theory is defined as,

2. Conspiracy Theory: An explanation of an event, past, present or in the future, that refers to the effect of a conspiracy.

But our main focus will be on why conspiracy suspicion, recognition and explanation (“theory”) is critically important to a functional society and democracy.
