- Overextending himself through officiating too many basketball games in 2015-16 and causing more issues.
- Going to Duke University and being unable to have a Heart transplant due to the high probability of rejection.
- Being told by a Cardiologist at Duke to get his house in order and prepare for the end.
- Wearing an external appliance that pumps his heart.
