Christian Celebration in the Christmas Season
Luke 2:22-40
1. The Kingdom of Judah anxiously anticipated Christ’s coming.
a. Simeon was a man who was eminent because of his piety and communion with God.
b. Simeon was awaiting this consolation of Israel.
2. The Holy Spirit was upon Simeon and revealed to him that he would see with his own eyes the Messiah.
a. God is Triune.
1. God the Father did Not exist before The Son and vice versa.
b. We do not know how long he had to wait, but we can guess that he did so in nervous excitement.
3. While Advent is a liturgical season that is defined by the waiting, Christmas is a season defined by the acceptance, of the newborn Messiah.
a. This excitement and acceptance can be difficult because in our world it is easy to put our excitement into things that offer instant gratification.
b. Gratification can seem more real than the excitement that Jesus offers.
c. Jesus is offering us something that is bigger, better and more real than any Earthly thing.
4. If Jesus is the embodiment of Salvation then there is no reason why we shouldn’t lean wholeheartedly into his love.
