Who helps the helper? Battling burnout + the fear of asking for help! With Debbie Mulder
Ep. 45
As a psychotherapist Debbie takes her role as a helper very seriously. And before becoming a mom, she had mastered the ability to help others all day and tune out the problems all night.
Then, not long after the birth of her first (of 4) children, she began to suffer from something she frequently identified in other women, postpartum burnout. But unfortunately instead of seeking out support she (as a ‘professional helper’) believed that if she had a mental health issue she would no longer be equipped to do her job. It took time and a lot of “un-masking” to finally find the courage to speak up.
Now, after unpacking her struggle, she works to erase the stigma associated with mental health and gives people the tools they need to share their story and remind them that they are not alone on this journey.
