In our first lookback episode of the year, we explore the genius of Jonathan Demme's masterpiece, Silence of the Lambs. Based on the 1988 novel by Thomas Harris, Silence of the Lambs follows FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster), as she is recruited to obtain the aid of imprisoned serial killer Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) in hopes of catching another killer who is at large. Released on February 14, 1991, the film almost immediately received widespread acclaim, winning five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Jonathan Demme), Best Actor (Anthony Hopkins), Best Actress (Jodie Foster), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Ted Tally). In addition, it remains in the AFI's list of 100 Greatest Films of All Time.
