Godly Wisdom - February 14, 2021

1. Solomon was well known for 2 specific things: his building accomplishments and his wisdom.

 

1. Solomon wrote down what we now know as the Book of Proverbs because he knew how easy it is to forsake wisdom.
2. Israel had previously decided to worship an idol in the form of a Golden Calf instead of being wise and worshipping the one true God.

READING OF SCRIPTURE PASSAGE: Proverbs 2:1-8.

 

2. Jesus is the embodiment of the “father” that is described in Proverbs 2.

 

1. Jesus taught the disciples like a father would teach his son.
2. Jesus’s teaching comes from a place of father-like care.

 

• Jesus is also the embodiment of the “son” that is described in Proverbs 2.

 

1. Like a son listening to his father’s instruction, Jesus prays to God in order to receive God’s instruction.
2. Jesus receives God’s instruction in order that Jesus could heed God’s instruction.

 

1. Furthermore Jesus is the embodiment of wisdom.
   1. Jesus understood the inherent need of God.

 

1. God helps us to achieve wisdom through his grace.
   1. We serve a God who wants to see success rather than failure.
