Intercultural empathy (the ability to step outside the boundaries of our culture and perceive the world by a culture different from our own), is essential when interacting with people from other backgrounds. It also helps you understand your own origins and beliefs.
This is a competency that you can use when trying to relate to anyone different from you, since a person’s culture may be shaped by other factors besides their ethnicity and nationality.
Like any other skill, you need to develop it. In this episode, I cover a range of topics to increase your intercultural empathy, including the different levels of cultural awareness, blocks that get in the way, and how to become an empathetic communicator.
