Patty Everett has a long history in the performing arts, and is now working with a theatre workshop in Los Angeles as a choreographer, director and vocal coach, also teaching voice privately via zoom. Her greatest love is her 20-year old son who is severely disabled. Her story is about advocating for her son in a hospital setting when he needed surgery, and taking action following to ensure that other parents facing the same situation would not be met with the same response. We talked about how being a warrior and being a peacemaker are not antithetical. We invited people to think about how to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves, and to share a story when it was necessary to tap into the warrior spirit. Was it possible to find humanity in the system, and make the connection that enabled the change?
