As a teenager in the mid-80’s, me & the homies would hang out at 2 distinctly different types of clubs: the ones in the city and the ones in the suburbs. The DJ’s played distinctly different styles, and we partied to all of it.
For Vol. 1, we hit the city. This was the period right before house music began to take over (we’ll hit that in another mix). This was when the 808 & 909 drum machines first began to dominate dance music. Young R&B producers blended electronic music into their styles and began to transform dance music. We hit the dance floors and soaked it up!
This mix captures the vibe of that era and is dedicated to all of the Gen X-ers who were on those dance floors enjoying these tunes with us. I hope you Millenials & Gen Z-ers enjoy it too!
