“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Look at the word “witnesses” in Acts 1:8. The Greek word for “witness” is the word for martyr. It means “one who dies for his faith.” That’s how deep and how intense Jesus’s call for us to be His witnesses is. He empowers us to be witnesses for Him even if it costs us our lives. The Apostles and early church understood that. Many believers around the world believe that, because they are persecuted and killed or martyred for their faith in Jesus.
